CHEAT RACE 2009
Individual Results Class Results Team Results

The 14th Cheat Canyon Downriver Race is now officially finished! Thank you to all who participated. We had a very nice turnout this year with the rain ending right before the race start. Clear skies yet again with temperatures in the mid 60's, creating almost perfect racing conditions. The water level was up above average, around 3 1/2, so for the second year in a row, we had slightly above average water levels (2 3/4 is the 14 year average). Overall, a good show by all and things appeared to have run smoothly. At least we think so. The race started on time, everyone finished, beer was cold at the take out and the post race party (with more beer) seemed to go well. Please send me an email with any corrections that are needed on the score sheets or thoughts in general on how to improve the race.
All the race results are up above on the links. This year's overall champion would be Andrew McEwan, who would narrowly beat out Geoff Calhoun by 37 seconds (over the 10 mile plus course) in the battle of four time champs. Congrats to Andrew on becoming the first to five titles!! Congratulations to Sara Mullet too, who would win her first championship in the Women's division. All the other division and class winners are up above in the links. We also have the Hall of Fame section updated too. The final number of racers ended up around 118 (boats racing) and 144 people registered. We had a bunch of racers switch over to rafts due to the higher than average water, plus some others drop out.
Special thanks to Jeff Prycl at Rocky Mountain Kayak for all the work he did with the race, plus a ton of prizes. All the other people too...Mountain Streams Outfitters (Dave Hough, JJ, Kevin Kurcina), Cheat River Outfitters (Wendy and Paul), Friends of the Cheat, StoneyBoater.com (Jason Rigby), Laurel Highlands Outfitters, Glenn Miller, Jesse Whittemore and Immersion Research for help with the race bibs and a lot of volunteers who donated their time. I didn't even get everyone's last names but there were plenty of people. Liz, Tina, Rich and John on the Safety, Keven Kurcina doing the safety sweep raft, Pat Hamlin and friends safety rafting. Travis safety boating. Jay, Barry, Michelle, Willie and a few others I never got names for at the takeout. Your help is much appreciated as it seemed like this race was one of the smoothest and well run we have ever had. Thanks!!
